I haven’t taken the time to update the blog much since we have been back from Santiago. Here is a quick update of what’s going on with the Marlowes.

We got back from Chile. We relaxed with the Jack family in PA. We visited my family in Illinois. God provided some small jobs to bring in money and I’ve been able to work on my doctrinal statement. Meranda got a new cousin. Bethanne had a birthday.

We are seeking the Lord’s will in future ministry opportunities. We would greatly appreciate your prayers.

This week I have greatly enjoyed attending the Advancing the Church Conference at Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary in Lansdale PA. Mark Dever has been the keynote speaker and I appreciate his thoughtful yet bold responses and faithful handling of the text.

This picture is from just after I returned from passing my checkride - a great day!

The wing tips are the worst part of the exterior paint. They are stable and have not been a problem at all.

The right wing tip. The fiberglass is solid, but the paint has hairline cracks through it.

Nice clean blue and white paint scheme.

Belly, just cleaned. Come and visit the plane to see how clean the engine runs.

The external power port comes in handy when you forget to turn off the master.

The instruments are laid out in the standard arrangement.

The VOR works great. The loran is inop. The transponder and radio are basic and reliable.

Christmas

We had a fantastic Christmas and enjoyed time with family celebrating the birth of our great Savior Jesus Christ. Here are a few pictures. You can see the online album here.

Meranda enjoyed opening gifts, even if they weren't for her.

Haley got a toy guitar with a headworn microphone that plays "I'm a Barbie Girl." Bethanne really enjoyed playing with it. She is a natural musical artist.

We got a new digital camera for Christmas! Praise the Lord! Our old one was getting worn out and very slow. Meranda normally is not allowed to touch our camera, but since we had a new one, we let her play with the old one for a few minutes. It did not take her long before she was taking pictures of herself and saying "cheese." Too funny. Her hair was also pretty well charged with static and looking quite stylish.

Back in the States!

We have arrived safely in Pennsylvania. Meranda was a terrific passenger and slept most of the way home. We are adjusting to the cold weather and enjoying spending time with family before the holidays.

So far the re-adjustment to American culture has been quite easy. It was amazing how quickly we made it through the checkout line in Walmart earlier today. The lines at stores move incredibly slow in Santiago.

Spirit Falls – Cascada de las Animas

December 8 is a national holiday here in Chile. Immaculate Conception day is a Roman Catholic holiday which celebrates their belief that the Virgin Mary was born free of sin. We took advantage of the holiday to travel an hour outside Santiago into the Maipo River Valley just Southeast of the city. The sights were fantastic and we enjoyed our time at Cascada de las Animas, a park with a restaurant, grills, picnic tables, a zip line over the river, hiking, a pool, white water rafting, and many other things. We enjoyed our lunch at the restaurant and Meranda took a nap by the pool. The highlight of my time there was the 1.5 hour hike to see the waterfalls. Bethanne did the hike in flip flops! (because I forgot to tell her to bring shoes) I carried Meranda in a back pack carrier and she loved it! This was one of two cable bridges we crossed on our hike to see the waterfalls. Not exactly stable or solid.

Pure water from a mountain spring. I didn't try it. The guide said the water was clean, but too high in minerals to use for drinking water on a regular basis.

Meranda likes to look in the neihbor's window. It's a good thing the nieghbors don't mind, and their cats enjoy the audience. She drags a stool out there and climbs up to peek in.

Meranda also looks out her bedroom window at the cats, who like to peek out their windows at Meranda.

We were shopping yesterday after church and there was a Santa station st up – we wanted to have Meranda get a picture with him. Meranda had other plans.

Meranda was happy before her visit with Santa.

Thanksgiving in Chile

One benefit of being a teacher at an American school in Chile is that we observe both Chilean and American holidays. Thanksgiving is not a Chilean holiday, but we enjoyed a nice break. The missionaries with ABWE all got together to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and watch football. Meranda enjoyed the time with some of her young friends.

Meranda is so good at reading that sometimes she reads with the book upside down for an extra challenge.

Here is my Christmas list for the Pollyanna – sorry it’s so late. If you are not part of our family Pollyanna, I will still accept gifts from you. I am having a real hard time coming up with things that I want. One thing I’ve learned very well here is that I have way too much stuff.
